About

ABOUT ME

After growing up in coastal Florida and Georgia, Laura Hakala is now an associate professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she teaches composition, American literature, and children’s/young adult literature. Her creative and academic writing uncover lesser-known stories about gender and race in the US South. Her family’s 200-year history as residents of Cumberland Island, Georgia also influences her writing. She lives in Fayetteville, NC, where she enjoys enjoy yoga, walking her dog Bilbo, and reading books to her daughters.
